Live-The Turn

Chris Shinn, the new lead singer for the widely popular rock band, Live, does this band total justice.  His voice, if I have to admit, is an eerie reminder of Ed's, the former popular singer for the band, who now runs his own solo efforts.  The release is full of "killer tracks"!  I mean everywhere you turn, there is an addicting song, after a massive jam.  Take for example the song, "6310 Rodgerton Dr." and the attractive appeal of one of the earliest tracks heard from "The Turn", a song called "Natural Born Killers".  "He Could Teach The Devil Tricks" has a bit of a haunting ethic  to it, a nice beat, and in my opinion is lyrically the best well written piece of material.  You really can't go wrong with "The Turn" album.  Just do not crank this baby up and expect to hear vintage Live, because you will not.  However, to be fair, being that their main lead vocalist left years back, then they played with Candlebox singer Kevin Martin in a band called The Gracious Few; they have matured in a far better form.  I truly love this album, normal reviewers receive material in the postal mail from management or publicists, or direct email.  Though that is the case at times with me, this release with Live's "The Turn", it was my I-Tunes purchase (planning to buy hard copy soon), that prompted me to issue this review.  I felt people need to know this band is far back and at it's best since their "Throwing Copper" days.  Some killer tracks like the lead cut, "Siren's Call", the rocker "The Way Around Is Through", and the must more beautifully laced piece titled, "The Strength To Hold On"-they all are incredible pieces of work!!  If I have to pick a favorite song from "The Turn", and you all know that I typically do, I would go for the song "By Design".  I just thoroughly enjoy the layout of the song, the lyrics are incredible, and the guitars by the famous Chad Taylor and Patrick Dahlheimer sit so well with the pulse-creating, heart beating drums of the great Chad Gracey.  Now please, listen throughout the entire album, because as a whole, "The Turn" tells a very honest and excellent story of life's triumphs, struggles, and the eventual successes we can come out with.  I cannot wait to get up enough to gran\b my physical copy, so i can blare this on the stereo asap!!  Thanks to Live and their crew for such an enjoyable experience.

Full Devil Jacket-Valley Of Bones

Well, the times have changed, the world has indeed changed, but the vocals have not.  Full Devil Jacket are back, and no it's not exactly what you expect it to be.  This is not a "satanic", head-smashing, ritualistic experience that seemed to be what  some pieces of their debut self-titled record was.  This is not "Mr Wiggly", this is not "Stain", and this is not, "Green Iron Fist" (from the Heavy Metal 2000 Soundtrack).  All I can say to those comparisons is, thank God!  This album is a breath of fresh air, a breath of "welcome back" Full Devil Jacket".  By now, after surfing the web, most of you have heard the track, "7 Times Down".  Although, a bit different on the album, the song keeps true to form, and is killer!  The lead song, "Killers", is my personal favorite, and gets the flow going on the album.  With lyrics like ".....it's the same old fucking darkness it's always been, I want to run, run, run, run, run away....."; the song is addicting and very much so a catchy track from VALLEY OF BONES.  "Valley of Bones" is most likely, if there is such a thing from the record, my least favorite song off of it, because it seems to run so smooth, and so to the point....seemingly lacking that "special" moment, though it still has Josh Brown's vocals, so that does give it something special.  Other standout tracks are "The Moment", "Paper Crown", "Blood Of The Innocent", and "Time In The Flames".  Please, don't get me wrong, all ten basic tracks on the release are solid, and worthy of your purchase and checking out, without a doubt, I mean, there is NO DOUBT!  I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to jam, rock, or who thought Josh Brown and/or Full Devil Jacket were "dead".  Think again, think twice, and hear this album!!  Just sample one song from it where you can, and then you'll be buying it, that is for sure!

A Skylit Drive-Rise

A Skylit Drive are well known for their screams and haunting lyrics.  RISE, their latest effort, grabbed my attention from the very start.  The cover was very unique, and from the sample I had heard, I was yearning to hear more.  The first cut I had heard, titled "Fallen", was floating around, and ended up on the special edition version.  This track had edge and a smoothness to it.  However what set them so far away from previous records they had in the past was the track called, ""Save Me Tragedy".  This is an incredible song, and caught me off guard!  I love this song, and it made me want a few copies of this record.  They belong on tour now, and I hope to catch them soon!  Do yourself a favor for the price f under ten bucks, pick up a copy of this one, it will not disappoint you.

Blue October-Sway

After some years off, and an awesome book written, not to mention-well written; Justin Furstenfeld has returned to glory with this epic release.  Due to be unleashed with butterflies on August 20th, 2013, the band will surprise the shit out of the fans and the reviewer with the record's tone.  I will admit, there are dark moments in and out of this album, but overall, this is a much lighter effort, the lyrics are all there, the passion has grown brighter, and the fans seem to have gotten what they really wanted in the end, a much mentally healthier vocalist of the band.  Justin, with whom you are aware battles mental health ordeals, which I, myself, the reviewer do daily as well, can feel him on.  SWAY goes and take the lighter emotions and shows the music world this band can sing and play them quite well and with pristine elements.  There is the short lived track number one, which sets the tone for the album very well, the the album title, "Sway", which is my personal fave.  The heart of the album, is filled with grit.  You get glimpses of anger and frustration, but only to end in smiles and hollowed out hate.  These songs, like "Hard Candy", "Fear", and "Things We Don't Know About", leave us with the edge we are all used to by Justin.  My favorites from this record are the songs, "Not Broken Anymore" and the epic song, "Debris".  I highly recommend you pick this up on it's release day!

I Ignite-Falling (Single)

It's only been since December 2011, that I Ignite first played together, and they are
one remarkable outfit.  They've shown extreme talent, persistence, and talent.  Musically, they rock hard, shred the walls, and rake the floors with lyrics that raise the heavens as well.  The single, "Falling", is my personal favorite from their six track, self-titled EP.  I enjoy the tone of the song, the way it seems to have been mastered, and the mixing of the track is wonderful.  the vocals of Eddie Raccioppi are hard to miss, and you just find yourself jamming to the music over and over!  The guitarists, Stefan and Corey, shred the air with delight and power, leaving the crowds with astonishment and an experience they'll likely never forget.  Joe Meyer, the masterful bass player of I Ignite, lays down the thunder on the track, "Falling", and you definitely take notice within this rocker, no doubt!  Jason Rosado, lays out the punishment in the drums, and our heads bounce along.  His work should seem familiar, as he used to pound it in the bands The New Black and Element.  The track is pretty fast paced, and leaves you wanting to speed your ass down the fucking road......so rev it up, jam to I Ignite, and lace those speakers with "Falling", then let the rest of the brilliant EP flow throughout your veins, your car, your ears, and scream and sing along with the band!!  Rock it!
